Why did you go into radio?

What other job is it your responsibility to play great country music, be up-to-date with new great artists, make people’s day by playing their requests, and get to give away prizes like concert tickets?!?! I love the music and being able to share music with others through radio.

What do you enjoy doing outside of radio?

A few people know I love dancing with my wife to some good music. We like to go camping, hiking, fishing and canoeing when we can, if we aren’t working on some project on the farm or taking care of our many different animals. My son and I read a lot together and that was always my happy place. And I’m ALWAYS up for going to see some live country music!

Who are your favorite country artists?

Too long a list…I know I’ll get crap for this, but Garth Brooks was my gateway artist into country music. Grateful to him because then was introduced to Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, George Strait, Mark Chestnutt, Joe Diffie, Patty Loveless, Eric Church, Shannon Lawson (if you don’t know who that is look up “The Acoustic Living Room Session” and he’ll be one of your new favorites!) Because of Iron Country my new favorites are Alex Williams, Jason Eady, Cody Jinks, Rick Huckabee, J Edwards, Ty Smith, KC Johns, Jason Boland, again, too many to mention!!

What Artist do you wish you could see in concert Past or Present?

Johnny Cash, Elvis and…don’t judge me, but Huey Lewis and the News. They were on my bucket list, I had tickets to go see them, but then his Ménière’s disease stopped him from touring so they cancelled, and I have never gotten to see them.

What would your last meal be and what would you wash it down with?

Texas Roadhouse rolls, grilled pork chops, grilled shrimp burritos, a Little Ceasar’s sausage and mushroom pizza with crazy bread, a pecan pie and wash it all down with ice cold milk.

When they make the movie of your life, who plays you?

In college, one of my fraternity brothers was a little scared of me because I looked like Jonesy from the Stephen King movie “Dreamcatcher”. So Damian Lewis would be the one to play me (same guy who played Major Winters in “Band of Brothers”, and Sergeant Nicholas Brody in “Homeland”.)

What’s your favorite radio memory?

Most recently is when my son Clem and I got to go on the Big Red in the Morning show. Was great to have him be so confident on the radio. Before that it was back in the 90’s winning Garth Brooks tickets, not once, but twice from radio stations around Wisconsin Rapids. One time to win them, a friend and I had to stay in a van in a County Market parking lot from 6am Friday until 6pm Sunday and we did remote check-ins with the radio station.

Do you have a message for the Iron Country Family?

I am so honored to be a part of the staff at Iron Country, and everyone should know that first and foremost I am a fan of the radio station, the music, the artists, the other DJs, and of course, all of you!! You are what makes Iron Country! By texting in and being a part of the radio show, or getting to meet you out at the family reunion or concerts, you all really make it feel like family, and I’m happy to be a part of it with you!
